A brief history of GPS Trackers
In the early years, GPS tracking devices were originally used for military use only between the years 1980-1990 but of course, the curiosity of the GPS devices grew and advanced. It wasn’t until 1996 when president Clinton decided that this system can be used for both citizen use and military use. GPS tracking was first made for the cold war in the 1960s. GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It consists of a network of satellites orbiting earth at fixed points and beams down signals to anyone with a GPS tracking device.
In the earlier years due to technology not being up to speed we had lacked the accuracy but thanks to science and technology we now have the final of the first 24 satellites.
GPS systems are completely functional and accurate today for everyone.

In the 90’s when the public started to use GPS devices they were very expensive and only the wealthiest of people could afford to even use them. Companies that wanted to track vehicles would use GPS tracking systems and they called this fleet tracking. At the beginning of fleet tracking to be able to correctly track a fleet, every moving vehicle needs to be enabled with an expensive GPS tracking unit.
Usually, the companies that would implement this system would be stuck with a high monthly fee to make use of satellites for GPS tracking. While this was beneficial in the early days the systems were hard to implement, expensive and hard to use.
Although it was a new technology this didn’t become popular until it was further developed and more simplified.

Today we are further along in technology. The modern fleet GPS tracking platforms use telematics data for fleet management, letting them run operations more proficiently. Lastly, passive tracking often is used with satellite or cellular coverage that offers frequent location updates rather than live GPS monitoring.
In Conclusion, these various choices of GPS tracking show a clear evolution in technology that has helped us advance in many different ways. Here is just a tidbit of how GPS first got started and how it was first used.
